David C. Plotkin, Ph. D., has been named Vice President of Academic Administration at Marylhurst University, University President Nancy Wilgenbusch announced Wednesday. Plotkin has served as Interim Vice President since July 2001. "David has done an outstanding job providing academic leadership," Wilgenbusch said.
Plotkin has been with Marylhurst University since 1999, most recently as Chair of the English Literature and Writing Department, an academic department established under his leadership. He also has served as Associate Faculty in the Department of Web-based Learning and as Director of the Writing Center. His expertise is in 19th Century British literature and rhetorical studies, with research interests in postcolonial theory, composition pedagogy and computer-mediated communication.
Plotkin also has taught at Willamette University and Portland Community College, and he has made presentations at numerous conferences, including the Modern Language Association Convention in Chicago (1999) and the Rhetoric Society of America biennial Conference at Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh (1998).
Among his many fellowships and grants, Plotkin was awarded a teaching fellowship that took him to Tamil Nadu, India, where he taught as a Shansi Fellow at American College, Madurai for two years in the late 1980s.
Plotkin holds a Ph.D. and an M.A. in English from the University of California, Irvine. He earned his bachelor's degree in English and American Literature at Oberlin College.
Marylhurst University is a fully accredited liberal arts university located 10 minutes south of Portland on Highway 43.
