Jesse Stommel Leads MOOC about MOOCs

Dr. Jesse Stommel, head of Marylhurst's BA in English Literature & New Media program, is holding a MOOC about MOOCs — Massive Online Open Courses — and it's drawing a lot of attention in the press.

Hosted by Stommel's online journal Hybrid Pedagogy, MOOC MOOC is "a lively, playful scrutiny and consideration of the Massive Open Online Course." It will be held August 12 through 18, 2012.

What's everyone saying about MOOC MOOC?

"Instructors, universities and curious people are signing up for the course. Together, they'll go through exercises and ask questions. By doing so, the founders hope that everyone will figure out for themselves what massively open online courses are, what they're capable of and whether they'll work for their needs."
-- Higher Education to Investigate Massively Open Online Courses, Convergemag.com, August 9, 2012

"There can be no doubt that this has been the summer of MOOCs: Massive Open Online Courses have seized the attention of faculty, journalists, and, more infamously, administrators. Naturally, the sclerotic, tweedy, Ivory Tower will take no notice of MOOCs until all courses that can move online will have done so, right? Wrong!"
