Dr. Patricia Allen, food systems & society department chair, published an article in the January 2013 issue of Journal of Rural Studies.
Her article, Facing Food Security, opens with the famous Dickens quote, "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times ..."
Dr. Allen elaborates: "And so it is with food security in the 21st Century. It is the worst of times because more people go hungry than at any point in human history, because environmental conditions of production are under accelerating threat, because we cannot agree on what is to be done. ... it is also the best of times because there is an unprecedented set of efforts to solve food security problems."
Dr. Susan Carter, interim chair of the MA in Interdisciplinary Studies Department, was named vice president of the Pacific Northwest Region of the American Academy of Religion / Society of Biblical Literature in May 2013.
