Marylhurst alum Jerilyn Felton led a workshop titled Doing Ministry with Dogs in February 2013.
Dr. Felton's workshop presented an overview of the development and implementation of a safe, effective and repeatable structure for using dogs to facilitate spiritual and pastoral care interventions. In addition to introducing Marylhurst graduate students and interested community members to this new form of ministry, the workshop was designed to stimulate creative thinking to consider other possible ministerial activities that go beyond traditional spiritual and pastoral care interactions.
Dr. Felton is the author of Four-Footed Ministers in Formation: A Training Manual on Dog Ministry, available in both print and e-book formats. She completed her MA in Interdisciplinary Studies at Marylhurst University, where she began her exploration of "four-footed ministers." She went on to complete her MA in Applied Theology.
