Eileen Mejia, communication studies faculty, will lead a retreat for Universal Unitarians in Seabeck, Wash., in May 2015.
Dr. Jennifer Sasser co-authored the 8th edition of Aging: Concepts and Controversies, updated with the latest information on jobs in gerontology, in March 2014.
For students who will be seeking jobs in gerontology, a concluding epilogue, Finding Your Place in an Aging Society, discusses the state of the field and explores current and emerging careers.
"What is unique about the text," Sasser says, "is that we take a critical thinking and liberal arts approach to the study of aging and provide up to date resources," such as proposals for changing Social Security. The textbook also references timely online resources including podcasts, videos and full-text articles.
Jennifer Sasser leads the gerontology program and Department of Human Sciences at Marylhurst University. She teaches several courses in aging and the life course, and she maintains a blog at GeroPunkProject.org.
