Dr. Jennifer Sasser, human sciences department chair, received the Distinguished Alumni Citation from Willamette University in April 2014.
The Distinguished Alumni Citation is awarded to individuals who have made "significant contributions within his/her chosen profession, including volunteer activities in service to his/her community or to the public at large." Past honorees include Jay Inslee, governor of Washington, and Tony Meeker, former Oregon state senator.
Jennifer Sasser is a nationally recognized expert in the study of aging and served as president of the Oregon Gerontological Association from 2008 to 2010. She is chair of the Department of Human Sciences and director of the gerontology program at Marylhurst University, which she also established. She was a state delegate at the White House Conference on Aging. Sasser has won awards from the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education, AARP/Andrus Foundation and the Oregon Gerontological Association.
