An essay by Dr. Jennifer Sasser, gerontology program director, was published in the International Journal of Reminiscence and Lifelong Learning in January 2015.
Dr. Melody Rose, currently chancellor of the Oregon University System, will join Marylhurst in mid-August 2014.
An announcement from Andrew MacRitchie to the students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of Marylhurst:
As chair of the board, I have the honor and pleasure of announcing that the Marylhurst Board of Trustees has unanimously selected Dr. Melody Rose to be the 15th president of Marylhurst University.
We are thrilled with the outcome of the presidential search and entirely confident in the selection of Dr. Rose. She is a leader in higher education and a nationally respected political science scholar. Dr. Rose has experience ranging from the classroom to the boardroom to guiding higher education policy for the state of Oregon.
Last fall, the Marylhurst board appointed a presidential search committee comprised of faculty, staff and trustees. The committee conducted a thorough national search with the assistance of an executive search firm. Please join me in offering thanks to Marylhurst board trustee Martin Ringle, who chaired the search committee, and all of the committee members for their arduous and good work.
During this period, Dr. Jerry Hudson, a widely recognized leader in higher education, joined the Marylhurst community as interim president. His careful, thoughtful and fully engaged leadership has prepared the way for Dr. Rose. Join me also in thanking Dr. Hudson for his dedication to Marylhurst.
Recently, Dr. Rose shared with me that Marylhurst's history and mission are an inspiration to her, and that she looks forward with great anticipation to working with all of us to carry out that mission in the future.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Melody Rose to our community.
