Sustainability at Marylhurst

At Marylhurst, we accept the responsible and moral choice to study, practice and advocate for health, just and sustainable relationships among all people and within the natural world.

As a leader in higher education and in our community, we actively engage in sustainability. We work to set an example of service, social responsibility and stewardship in the natural world through academic programs, our Sustainability Advisory Council, campus-based sustainability initiatives and membership in both local and national associations.

Academic programs

Sustainability is a heavy focus of several of our bachelor's and master's degree programs, including:

The MBA in Sustainable Business (Green MBA) and the Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Business, which weave sustainable business philosophies into every class

The MS in Food Systems & Society, with an emphasis on sustainable food systems

The environmental science concentration in our Bachelor of Arts in Science program

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design, which focuses heavily on sustainable design practices

The sustainability studies concentration within the Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies


Sustainability Advisory Council

Self-nomination period for Advisory Council now open through September 20. Download Self-Nomination Packet. 
The Marylhurst University Sustainability Advisory Council is a primary driver of campus sustainability initiatives. This group of students, staff, faculty, alumni and community members helps keep earth stewardship a campus priority and promotes adoption of practices that will help Marylhurst become a model of ecological sustainability.

Associations

Marylhurst is an institutional member of the Association for Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, an association of colleges and universities working to create a sustainable future. The AASHE mission is to empower higher education to lead the sustainability transformation.

Marylhurst also has an active student chapter of Net Impact, an international nonprofit organization with a mission to inspire, educate and equip individuals to use the power of business to create a more socially and environmentally sustainable world.
