Handmade Musical Instrument Show at Marylhurst UniversityFor Release: March 26, 2008
Handmade musical instrument makers from across the Pacific Northwest will display their craft on Saturday and Sunday, April 19 and 20, from noon to 5:00 p.m. in Clark Commons at Marylhurst University. Admission is $3.00; children under 12 are admitted free. For more information, call 503.233.0836. For a list of exhibitors, performances and instruments, visit www.nwmusicalinstrumentshow.org/. More than 60 artisans will participate in this thirty-second annual gathering of talented musical instrument makers. Exhibits will include instrument making, musical performances and finished instruments such as violins, guitars, mandolins, woodwinds and percussion. Select suppliers of instrument woods will be on hand as well. "Visitors will see new instruments made by the exhibitors and a display of wonderful old instruments, affectionately called The Venerables, that pay tribute to the history of the craft," said Cyndy Burton, classical guitar maker and one of the shows organizers. "As instrument makers we draw inspiration from the past while our work incorporates the materials, designs and techniques of the 21st century." The show is co-sponsored by Marylhurst Universitys Department of Music and the Early Music Guild of Oregon. Marylhurst is located one mile south of Lake Oswego on Highway 43. Marylhurst University offers professional certificates and degrees for undergraduate and graduate studies. Music degrees include the Bachelor of Music in Performance, Bachelor of Music in Composition, Bachelor of Arts in Music and Bachelor of Music Therapy. | |||||||
