United Way Honors Mary Zenorini

Excerpt from an article by Kirby Neumann-Rea in the Hood River News,
July 22, 2009.

Mary Zenorini received the volunteer of the year award from the United Way of the Columbia Gorge.

"Some say hospice care is about love. That truly depicts Mary, who is so passionate about hospice and all it represents," said Christine Jones of Hospice of the Gorge.

"Through volunteering for Hospice of the Gorge, I have found my true calling," Zenorini said.

In 2006, her father and mother came on service with Hospice of the Gorge. Zenorini went from volunteering her services to patients and families to being a full-time caregiver for her own family members.

Zenorini began volunteering with patients and familes again, "while pursuing both a new career path and a new mission in her life," Jones said. "She left the corporate world to go back to school and attain a degree that would allow her to work with patients and families faced with the dying process."

Zenorini told the United Way assemblage, "I have to thank my parents. From the time that I was a child they instilled in me the importance of giving back through being a volunteer. It is a joy to be able to work with an organization that does such extraordinary and important work –and for me is a sacred gift."
