Marylhurst to Present at Continuums of Service Conference

Amanda Baker, service program coordinator, and Melanie Booth, assistant dean of assessment, will present at the 2010 Continuums of Service Conference.

About the Presentation

The Horse Before the Cart: Institutional Strategic Planning to Foster a Culture of Service

Marylhurst University is in the process of creating a formal Marylhurst Service Program in order to make community-based service a more intentional, integral and recognized part of the University's culture both in the work we do and the education we provide. A team of faculty and staff working on the University's Strategic Plan created energy around service and is now in the process of enacting the service-oriented Srategic Plan goals and action steps. Workshop participants will reflect on and co-generate ideas for building a service culture, starting with strategic planning at an institutional level and achieving support from key administrators for specific service initiatives.

About the Conference

The 13th Annual Continuums of Service Conference invites leaders—including representatives from higher education, K-12 education, community-based organizations, government agencies, philanthropic organizations, businesses, and grassroots efforts—to convene and discuss strategies to implement our shared leadership and responsibility to rebuild and strengthen communities across the region. This year’s conference will be held Wednesday, March 31 through Friday, April 2, 2010 in Portland, Oregon.
