Campus Master Plan
The Campus Master Plan preserves the Universitys historic buildings, harmonizes new structures, renovates essentials such as heating and cooling systems, expands campus safety and security features and equips classrooms with technologies for dynamic multimedia learning.
The project is designed to enhance the quality of education at Marylhurst University by improving the physical assets of the campus.
Construction Work 2007-2008
The construction work being completed in 2007-2008 addresses safety, efficiency, comfort and legal requirements as well as adding aesthetically desirable elements to the campus.
Projects include:
- Constructing a new roadway and parking areas to improve traffic circulation, reduce hazards and bottlenecks.
- Installing new sidewalks with raised pedestrian crossings along Highway 43 and Furman Drive, increasing safety by separating vehicles and pedestrians, as well as creating easier access to buildings.
- Increasing security and comfort of drivers and pedestrians by installing improved directional signs.
- Making Marylhurst more accessible to disabled students and patrons by re-grading sidewalks and adding new, generous parking spaces adjacent to Shoen Library and other buildings.
- Constructing a large, well-lighted parking lot near Mayer, Villa Maria and BP John to increase the number of parking spaces located near most classrooms.
- Improving the condition of the natural environment by removing dead wood, unsafe tree limbs/trunks and non-native plants, replacing with native species and accentuating boundries to protected areas and stream corridors.
- Installing an irrigation system and planting trees, shrubs and flowers three trees for every one removed to protect and enhance the natural beauty of the campus.
- Replacing, repairing and installing appropriate electrical, plumbing and lighting systems to improve safety, increase reliability and reduce maintenance and energy costs.
- Installing new outdoor lighting to increase the safety, security and comfort of drivers and pedestrians, blend with the architectural elements and produce less light pollution.
- Constructing a new storm water system beneath the roadway to meet city environmental standards, including removal of contaminents and flow rate control for discharge into the Willamette River, eliminating marshy conditions in campus lawns.
- Creating a pedestrian-only gathering place around the fountain, connecting St. Anne's Chapel, Shoen Library and BP John Administration Building, with added green space and outdoor seating.
- Completing classroom upgrades in the BP John Administration Building, including painting, reflooring and refurnishing, adding appropriate black boards/white boards and Internet access.
- Renovating the cloisters wing on the 3rd floor of BP John into four large smart technology classrooms, a conference room and educational offices.
- Creating Clark Plaza, an expanded, landscaped and partially covered sitting and eating area between BP John and Clark Commons.
- Beginning renovation of Aquinas Hall, one of the oldest buildings on campus, to create offices for faculty and staff.
