Director of The Center for Learning And Technology

CLASSIFICATION: 12 month, Full-time appointment

REPORTS TO: Vice President For Academic Affairs

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Participate in collaborative decision-making process and strategic goal-setting around learning and technology on campus with University Librarian, MIS Director and faculty, including acquiring new software to be used in instruction; supporting faculty use of new software; and creating or acquiring instructional materials for classroom or online use.

2. Accountable for ensuring that learning management system runs with little or no service interruption and is as transparent to users as possible.

3. Responsible for the overall quality of online instruction. Develop quality control over online teaching and implementing that control in collaboration with department chairs. Develop measurable indices of quality online teaching and learning.

4. Advocate for and communicate about online learning, including effective education of chairs and associate faculty about online learning, the assessment of our learning management system, and providing effective and proactive training for adjunct faculty and students.

5. Oversee the implementation of a variety of technological and online tools related to learning, including, but not limited to, student information systems and academic outcome assessment.

6. Maintain an inventory of hardware and software and licensing agreements pertaining to instructional technology.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

1. Master’s degree required, preferably in instructional technology, education and technology, or related discipline.

2. Must have strong team-management skills and be able to support and lead employees with technical expertise in educational hardware and software.

3. Demonstrated ability to lead in an organization, including strong communication skills, ability to rally stakeholders to a shared vision, and excellent listening skills.

4. Demonstrated ability to manage vendors and experience in contract administration.

5. Understands trends in online education and instructional technology, able to communicate trends to multiple constituents, and in a collaborative and inclusive manner able to engage in or lead institutional conversation and decision-making regarding technology.

6. Strong project management skills.

7. Ability to manage change well, both from a people and a process prospective.

8. Knowledge of and experience in higher education academic administration preferred.

9. Experience in training faculty in online pedagogy and the use of instructional technology.

10. Strong management, communication, facilitation and team building skills.

11. Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects.
