Envisioning Marylhurst
Taking Our Potential Into The Future
It's time to build on the success of the past 115 years and to envision Marylhurst University's future. So many have a stake in Marylhurst's future: current and future students, including our distance-learning students; the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary; alumni; faculty; staff; and local communities. All of these stakeholders will have a strong influence on shaping the future of Marylhurst.
On the evening of January 29th, the full day of the 30th and one-half day of the 31st, about 80 stakeholders will meet to develop a vision for Marylhurst's next 30 years.
There will be many ways to participate. You can start now by reading and contributing to the Marylhurst Envision Blog:

The Process
What we will create:
- A 30-year vision for Marylhurst University
- A five-year strategic plan following the creation of that vision
- Strong ownership by key stakeholders
- Clarity around how the University's vision will unfold over time
A Two-Step Process
The first step is the visioning conference: 16 hours scheduled over three days, which will result in a clear vision and priorities for the future.
The second step will occur between February and July 2009. The Vision will provide the impetus and context for a strategic planning process that will translate vision themes into plans of action. This step will involve Marylhurst University leadership, faculty and staff in shaping specific plans for the next five years.
Why Involve Stakeholders
Vision and strategies created by a small group of organizational leaders can lack expansive thinking and broad ownership of constituencies. Our approach is to involve representatives of many stakeholder groups, tapping their creative energy and passions to develop the vision and action plan of our shared future.
The Critical Reasons for this Process
Marylhurst University is preparing to launch the next wave of change in realizing its potential.
We must continue to enact the University's mission of service and leadership.
We are continually enhancing the high quality education we provide students.
Dramatic social, economic and political changes are inevitable, and Marylhurst University must respond to them.
Responding to external changes means understanding what specific changes we need to make to our programs, competencies, facilities and processes so we can help our students achieve their dreams.
The Conference
Examples of Questions We Will Explore:
