Sustainability at MarylhurstEveryone's talking about sustainability. And we're all doing something to make a difference. As a leader in higher education and our community, the University recognizes its responsibility to set an example and help others make our world a better place. CurriculumSustainable business philosophy the interconnection of economic, environmental and human social issues is woven into each and every class in the Green MBA program. The Environmental Science program prepares students to pursue a profession in environmental education and communication, natural resource management or environmental planning. The Interior Design program emphasizes a sustainable practices approach to architecture and interior design in its curriculum. The McDonough book, Cradle to Cradle, has been required reading, along with other resources on sustainable practices. Sustainabililty Studies concentration in the BA in Interdisciplinary Studies empowers students to shape their curriculum to their interests and goals. Sustainability Advisory CouncilThe Marylhurst University Sustainability Advisory Council (MUSAC) started several years ago as a grassroots effort. A group of energetic staff, faculty and students calling themselves the Green Team met over lunch to discuss issues surrounding the environment and to share ideas on how to make things happen campuswide. In 2009, University leadership gave the group the official designation of Sustainability Advisory Council. The Council's mission is to foster university-wide responsibility towards earth stewardship and building sustainable community and to work to establish the University as a model of ecological sustainability. Barry Childs spoke on micro-banking at Marylhurst in April 2011. | |||||||
