Degree Requirements

BA in Media and Film Studies

Minimum of 180 total quarter credits
Minimum of 60 upper-division credits
Minimum of 45 credits from Marylhurst
60 credits is required for major.

Introduction to Film
Introduction to Media Studies
New Media & Digital Culture
Literary & Critical Theory
History of Film I: 1895-1970
History of Technology: From the Steam Engine to the Smart Phone
Senior Paper

Electives in  the Major - 18 credits
Any cultural, film or media studies course may be used to meet this requirement.

Focus Area of Study - 18 credits
Student may choose a focus in media and film or in media production as described below.

Topics in Film Studies
Topics in Film Genre
Film Theory

History of Film II: 1970 to Present

Other related courses with adviser approval

Focus Area: Media Production
Student collaborates with adviser to design customized area of focus in media production. Coursework may include
• Media production courses at Marylhurst
Approved transfer courses from community colleges or other colleges
Approved cooperative credits earned through Northwest Film Center
