Text:Image Concentration

The text:image concentration in the BA in English Literature & Writing emphasizes the relationship between literature and images, including manuscripts, graphic novels, film, book design and cartography, and digital humanities.

This concentration explores the relationship between literature and the visual arts. In literature, film, art, new media and graphic novels, text can be a visual element, and visual elements create meaning. As a student pursuing a text:image concentration, you will:

  • Compose critical or creative works that explore the intersection of text and image
  • Become familiar with contemporary trends in writing and new media
  • Study historical, cultural and theoretical contexts and how they shape visual and textual mediums
