Department of Music scholarships are awarded to candidates demonstrating all of the following qualifications:

• Musical talent
• Academic excellence
• Potential to contribute to the musical vibrancy of the department
• Financial need

All scholarship recipients are required to:

• Enroll each term in the Marylhurst Music Core,
• Take at least nine (9) credits within the Marylhurst Department of Music,
• Participate in a major ensemble in the department.

Department scholarships are available for first-year students, transfer students and second-degree students. We determine financial need by information reported in the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

To be considered for a department scholarship, you must:

• Complete the music application process and audition in February, and 
• Complete the university's financial aid application process by March 1.

All awards are for one academic year (three terms)
and may be renewed for students who:

• Continue meeting music scholarship requirements listed above,
• Maintain a 3.70 GPA,
• Demonstrate exceptional participation in program and department activities, and
• Demonstrate continued financial need.

PLEASE NOTE: We will not be able to admit you into a music degree program or offer department scholarships until your application packet is complete and you have auditioned for the Department of Music. We encourage prospective students to apply for other aid, including grants, scholarships, loans and work-study, through the financial aid application process. In addition to Department of Music scholarships, university-wide scholarships are available to music majors. All scholarship and financial aid information can be obtained from the Office of Financial Aid. International students are not eligible for Marylhurst University or Marylhurst Department of Music scholarships.

• Miller Music Scholarships for music majors. Scholarship amount is generally $2000 per academic year. Award can be prorated.
• Music Department Scholarships for music majors enrolled in ensemble and private lessons. Scholarship amount is generally $900 per academic year. Full-time enrollment required; award cannot be prorated.
• Jean Sharp Memorial Piano Scholarship for music majors with piano as their primary instrument. Scholarship amount is generally $1000 per academic year. Full-time enrollment required; award cannot be prorated.
• Lajos Balogh Orchestra Scholarship for music majors with an orchestra instrument as their primary instrument. Scholarship amount is generally $1200 per academic year. Award can be prorated.
• Sister Anne Cecile Daigle Scholarship for music majors, with preference given to composition majors or those with piano as their primary instrument. Scholarship amount is generally $1200 per academic year. Full-time enrollment required; award cannot be prorated.
• Sister Emerentia Berndorfner Scholarship for music majors, with preference given to those with harp or voice as their primary instrument. Scholarship amount is generally $900 per academic year. Full-time enrollment required; award cannot be prorated.
