About

James Schmitt is a frequent soloist in the Portland area as well as throughout Oregon, and is a research team member for the Soul Song Project.

Hie repertoire includes opera (Mozart and Verdi), oratorio (Bach's St. Matthew Passion, St. John Passion, Christmas Oratorio, Cantata No. 160; Handel's Messiah; Haydn's The Creation and Lord Nelson Mass; Respighi's Laud to Nativity; Vaughan Williams' Mass in G Minor) as well as solo recitals.

He has sung with Lyric Opera Company of Chicago, the Des Moines Symphony, Claremont Symphony in California and Columbia Symphony in Portland. He also is a member of the Novum Chamber Singers

James has taught at Scripps College, Warner Pacific College and the University of Portland.
