Marylhurst faculty received "excellence and innovation" grants supporting work in business, interior design, art, sustainability and music therapy.

Marylhurst Symphony
Born and raised in Hungary, Lajos Balogh received his first violin lessons from his father at the age of 3 1/2. He settled in the United States in 1967, and has taught at Marylhurst University since then.
Lajos concertized as a soloist and chamber musician in Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal and the United Kingdom. Her formerly served on the faculties of Lewis & Clark College and Portland State University.
Lajos is founding conductor and music director of the Portland Festival Symphony and the Metropolitan Youth Symphony. He served as principal second violinist of the Oregon Symphony for 27 years.
Teachers at the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest were Rados, Jardanyi, Szervanszky, Anton Molnar and Zoltan Kodaly
Further studies in Munich with Kurt Stiehler and in Hamburg with Tibor Varga
Member of the American Federation of Musicians
Charter Member of the Beethoven Society, Munich, Germany
