Media and Film Studies

  • The media studies courses explore questions that deal with the political, economic and social relationship between art, media and society, with attention paid to the current evolution of media and the influence of technology on what has been previously defined only as artistic endeavor.

Depending on the course, a range of artistic, political and cultural phenomena will be discussed, such as new media, social media, digital humanities, advertising, popular music, consumerism, global media, television, virtual reality and the Internet.

  • The film studies courses take up the challenge of reading film as a social, economic and political text that transcends its value as merely entertainment or cultural production.

You can expect to study the cinematic form, narrative structure, and its productive and distribution value, as well as film history, genre, individual fimmakers, theory and topical classes dealing with issues ranging from the representation of gender to world cinema.
