About

Mary Coté holds BA, MA, and PhD degrees in English from the University of Oregon. Her doctoral work focused on medieval studies, specializing in Chaucer, and on gendered heroics in Western literature. Her theoretical interests include narratology, reader-response theory, reception theory, and feminisms. Prior to her doctoral work, she concentrated mainly on the novel in Britain and America, with special attention to works by women, especially Austen, the Brontës, George Eliot, Sarah Orne Jewett, and Virginia Woolf. She has taught at the University of Oregon, Sheldon Jackson College, Pacific University, Clark College, OIT-Portland, and here at Marylhurst, where she teaches courses for the English Literature and Writing Department and the Marylhurst Core Program.
