Creative Writing and Contemporary Arts Workshop
for High School Students
Sponsored by Marylhurst University's English, Literature & Writing Department and Art & Interior Design Department
The Workshop for Teen Writers and Artists, located on Marylhurst University's historic campus, is a nine-day seminar where high school students (ages 14-18) receive college-level instruction in creative writing and visual arts. Students meet Thursday, June 18th to Friday, June 26th, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., taking introductory and advanced seminars in prose and poetry along with visual arts workshops, such as drawing, comic arts, digital writing, printmaking and book arts. Seminar-style classes are taught by working, professional visual artists and writers.
Students develop skills as creative writers, inventive artists, critical thinkers and spirited collaborators within a generous, diverse community of learners. The program combines writing and interdisciplinary art workshops, production of text-based projects and public readings.
Applications are now being accepted. Students are encouraged to apply early as the workshop fills rapidly. Applications received by June 1, 2015 are given preference and confirmation can be expected four weeks after receipt of application. Students may choose to earn three Marylhurst University credits.
A limited number of partial and full, need-based scholarships are available. To apply, check the scholarship box on the registration form and send it before the May 4, 2015 deadline. Students who have financial means to pay for the workshop are asked not to apply for the scholarship.
