Gerontology Concentration

What do gerontologists think they are doing when they do gerontology? What are the questions, issues and problems around which gerontology organizes and institutionalizes itself?

How does gerontology function as a discipline and practice when other disciplines and fields are increasingly taking on issues of aging, old age and later life?

The gerontology concentration within our BA in Social Sciences program tackles these important questions. Aging is an emergent phenomenon. Human beings are living longer than ever before in the history of this planet. And human aging is a complex, multi-faceted process that unfolds over a long period of time. It demands a holistic, critical and contemplative approach founded upon the nuanced relationship to time, place and space.
