Concentrations

You can choose from four concentrations in pursuing your Master of Education at Marylhurst:


Professional Education Concentration

This concentration allows you to advance your knowledge by taking courses in a number of areas, including classroom diversity, culturally proficient instruction, social justice, child/adolescent development, assessing learning and creating positive classroom environments.


Reading Endorsement Concentration

In this concentration you learn alongside peers in small, seminar-style classes taught by expert faculty. When you complete the program, you'll be able to use research-based strategies and assessment tools to inform instruction, meet the needs of individual learners and understand how to effectively deliver reading instruction.

Depending on your interest and teaching level, you may focus in:

  • Early childhood and elementary
  • Elementary and middle school
  • Middle school and high school


ESOL Endorsement Concentration

This program is designed for licensed teachers. You will learn alongside peers in small, seminar-style classes taught by expert faculty. When you complete the program, you'll be able to use research-based strategies and assessment tools to inform instruction, meet the needs of individual learners and understand how to effectively deliver ESOL instruction.

Depending on your area of interest and teaching level, you may focus in early childhood and elementary, or middle and high school.


Teacher Leadership Concentration

If you are a working professional in the field of education seeking a post-master's degree, the teacher leadership program provides professional development comprised of 21 credits of focused graduate coursework toward the development of proficiency-based leadership skills.

This unique area of study has been prominently identified in recent research literature about school change and instructional improvement.
