Online English Degree

OCCUPY THE DIGITAL. Literary texts have heft and gravity, meaning and substance. A book has a certain weight in our hands, and, even as they're rendered digital, books continue to have a physical impact on us. In the Bachelor of Arts in English Literature & New Media program, you'll study all the subjects of a traditional literature and writing degree, while also considering how the acts of reading and writing are changed by evolving technologies.

In this small, selective program you'll study with a cohort and full-time faculty from the on-campus department. All newly enrolled students will receive an iPad. This tool will help you:

>> Expand your textual and digital literacy

>> Study literature and creative writing in the context of new media

>> Enhance your new media production skills by creating digital projects in courses that focus on digital storytelling, maps and literature, hypertext and graphic novels

>> Learn from within your community and out in the natural world

>> Hone your critical thinking and writing skills

The English literature and new media degree offers the flexibility of online coursework, while emphasizing active learning, service, networking, collaboration and community-building. As part of your program requirements, you'll design and complete a service learning project that thoughtfully connects your coursework with the work you do in your own community.

In addition to working toward your degree online, you'll take two or three short trips to our campus near Portland, Oregon to collaborate in person with your teachers and fellow students. Most travel expenses will be included in the standard tuition.

The program will help prepare you for graduate school or careers in freelance writing, professional blogging, digital publishing, editing, social media marketing, digital archiving and teaching.
