BA in English Literature & Writing
All English degree majors take a core set of courses designed to offer a solid foundation in literature and writing. Through the English Literature and Writing core courses we seek to encourage critical engagement with literary and cultural texts and infuse literary study with an understanding of the connection between literature, history and writing.
Concentrations
You may choose from concentrations that emphasize different aspects of literary studies. Within each concentration, our core curriculum focuses on interpretation, composition and creativity.
Literature »
Emphasizes interpretation, with knowledge of literary, historical and social contexts to guide the understanding of meaning.
Creative Writing »
Combines core courses in literature and writing with specialized workshops designed to refine skills in creative writing.
Text:Image »
Emphasizes the relationship between literature and images including manuscripts, graphic novels, film, book design and cartography, digital humanities.
