Financial Aid Warning

A financial aid warning is just that – a warning. Students on warning status may still receive financial aid. We place students on financial aid warning status when one of the following situations occurs:

For undergraduate study:

  • Term GPA is below 2.0
  • Cumulative GPA is below 2.0
  • Less than 100 percent of credits attempted were completed

For graduate study:

  • Term GPA is below 3.0
  • Cumulative GPA is below 3.0
  • Less than 100 percent of credits attempted were completed

Sample scenarios:

An undergraduate student enrolled for 6 credits who withdrew from 3 credits would not have completed 100 percent of the credits for which aid was received

An undergraduate student enrolled for 12 credits who received an "Incomplete" grade for 3 credits would not have completed 100 percent of the credits for which aid was received

A graduate student registered for 9 credits, completed them all, but earned a cumulative GPA of only 2.85

A graduate student registered for 6 credits who received an "In Progress" grade for 3 credits would not have completed 100 percent of the credits for which aid was received

Resolving warning status

To get out of warning status and get back into financial aid "good standing," students can do one of the following (depending on what situation caused the warning):

  • Complete the next term successfully (defined as completing 100 percent of all credits for the term with a GPA above the required minimum)
  • If the warning was caused by an "Incomplete" or "In Progress" grade, have the "I" or "IP" grade changed to a passing grade before the end of the warning term

Students who do not complete these requirements while on warning will be placed on financial aid suspension for the next term.
