Vice President for University Advancement

 

CLASSIFICATION:

Full-Time, Exempt

 

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Initiates, plans and implements special fundraising and academic program events for Marylhurst University.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Plans and coordinates major fundraising events; including the annual Golf Tournament, the Women of Distinction Luncheon and the University’s Annual Dinner.

2. Working with Academic Department Chairs, plans and coordinates events (on-campus and online) related to the support and promotion of academic programs.

3. Coordinates with the Marketing and Communications department to publicize events (on-campus and online).

4. Communicates and supports scheduling of campus facilities by external clients, including coordinating these events with Facilities, Catering, and other departments.

5. Writes and prepares proposals and letters of varying complexity to corporations, foundations and individuals to seek support of Marylhurst University events. Tracks and follows up on submissions.

6. Prepares written materials for invitations, correspondence, and programs for special events.

7. Prepares reports, written and verbal, to various constituents of the University, on proposal activities and special event planning and results.

8. Composes correspondence for the President, Vice Presidents, Department Chairs, and others relating to special events.

9. Recruits staff and volunteers for events and gives detailed instructions relating to tasks. Supervises Events Assistant position.

10. Reviews and manages special events’ budgets.

11. Works with Marketing to update web site relating to special events, including campaign and donor web pages.

12. Helps coordinate and plan regional receptions for friend raising/fundraising.

13. Participates in University-wide planning and policy development related to campus events.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

1. Bachelor’s degree.

2. Minimum of three years of experience in special events management or related field, including the ability to perform advanced administrative responsibilities.

3. Experience in staging special events, including budgeting, organizing and sequencing tasks, allocating resources, negotiating facilities and sponsors, and developing resources.

4. Excellent organizational and problem solving skills; ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.

5. Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to interact with a diverse group of people on both a professional and personal level.

6. Excellent communication skills; ability to effectively conduct meetings, make presentations, and produce business correspondence and brochures.

7. Excellent writing and editing capabilities, and the ability to speak articulately of the University's programs.

8. Ability to supervise and provide direction to staff and volunteers assisting with events.

9. Extensive computer knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office suite including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, mail merge, and presentation software. Ability to learn new software, specifically the Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge donor database program and the scheduling software program.

10. Independent self-starter with the ability to lead with minimal supervision.

11. Ability to conduct research, including Internet research.

12. Ability to maintain detailed confidential information and records.

 

POSITION HOURS:

Full-time position requiring some evening and weekend hours.
