Gerontology Core CoursesThrough six core courses, gerontology students engage in traditional, rigorous scholarly inquiry in theory and research while exploring and conceptualizing aging in creative, new ways. Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Aging Provides a comprehensive overview of the multidisciplinary field of gerontology. Embodiment in Later Life Focuses on the biological, physiological and health aspects of the aging experience. Senior Power, Politics and Policy Examines issues, agencies and advocacy processes that affect seniors at the local, state and federal level. Theorizing and Researching in Gerontology Explores important gerontology theory and research; simultaneously, students are encouraged to formulate and pursue questions about adult development and aging. Social Systems in Later Life Acquaints students with each layer of the social system, including social programs for older adults, aging-supportive living environments and interpersonal relationships with friends, family and pets. Gerontology: Synthesis and Action Integrates all coursework into a dynamic whole, allowing students to actualize learning in a variety of contexts and issues related to adult development and aging. Students choose at least one additional course from a menu of gerontology offerings. | |||||||
