Liberal Arts Core

When many individuals define their expectations for higher education, they look for the ability to work and make decisions from a more enlightened and knowledgeable perspective. Research shows that employers look for these qualities in candidates for executive and managerial positions, giving liberal arts graduates an important career advantage.

What is the Liberal Arts Core?

All bachelor’s degree programs at Marylhurst incorporate the Liberal Arts Core (LAC). It is a signature characteristic of a Marylhurst education. The LAC complements degree-specific requirements with well-rounded exposure to Life and Learning Skills, Arts and Ideas, the Human Community and the Natural World.

Student Testimonial

"I have always had the perception that college would be stressful and difficult, but I found through this course and other courses I took this fall that college is enriching and fun. I came into this course with some concerns about my abilities, but with a willingness to learn, to be open and to make connections. What I walk away with is being comfortable with the rhythm of what I see as a very healthy and grounded institution of higher education with much understanding, flexibility and support for its community of students and instructors. I expect to continue with this rhythm throughout my time at Marylhurst."

– Patrice Kelly, after completing the introductory course Academic Learning: Discovery and Practice
