My Daughter's Future

In a Dozen Lines (or less)

by Ed Kline

you will walk, talk, ride a bike. you will bruise.
you will slam your hand in a car door. more than once.
one day, you will almost drown in a neighbor's pool.
you will think it is funny; I already have nightmares.
you will wear a training bra. I will be
embarrassed to have a daughter with breasts;
you will be embarrassed to have a father who dresses like that.
you will fall in love three times during high school.
I will like the second one, which kills the relationship.
you will have your heart broken; I will cry more than you.
you will go to college. too far away. you will shine.
