He-She-Me-She

by Jamie MacGillis

I am a he-she-me-she,
a prissy-pants, useless and without pockets,
a sticky stained pair of blue jeans
that have begun to cut off at the knee,
a boy-beast matching girlie shapes
to teacher-made pictures,
a consummate performer responsible
for birthday ads in The Daily News,
a blind mime
a straight-gay, gay-straight military officer/degenerate,
a founder of the recruitment department,
a ranked lover, the 79th most kissable guy/girl
with very thin wrists
too tiny for my she/he-punkass to turn emo and self-loathe,
a breadwinning mountain climber/dishwasher,
a child never grown
pulling at Mother's leg
lifting her and hugging her,
a constrictor envious of Mother's breath,
a superior bench presser tossing mothers
like dollies of future Caucasian
Afro-American and 3/5 Southeast Asian legacies,
a champion to pass the title on to children,
a best in the ring, best in the bedroom he-she-me-she,
a versatile performer who has been touring nationally since 1987.
