M Review
is an ad-free, private university sponsored publication, published once
a year in June. Submissions for the June 2008 edition will be accepted
from October 1, 2007 until January 26, 2008.
M Review accepts
submissions in the following categories:
POETRY
SHORT FICTION
CREATIVE NON-FICTION
SOCIAL COMMENTARY
VISUAL ART & PHOTOGRAPHY
All entries in
the Poetry, Short Fiction, and Creative Non-fiction categories will
be considered for publication and the annual writing competition (Marylhurst
University faculty are not eligible for the contest). Authors with the
winning entry in the Poetry, Short Fiction, and Creative Non-fiction
categories will receive a $50 cash prize. Judging for the writing competition
is made by established writers in their field. Past judges have included
Howard Aaron, Paul Durica, Jesse Lichtenstein, Michael McDowell, Scott
Nadelson, Kathy O'Shaughnessy, Paulann Petersen, Natalie Serber, and
Matt Yurdana.
M Review accepts
only unpublished work (either in print or online), with the exception
of visual art.
GUIDELINES:
Poetry
Limit
of five poems per author. Submit in either html or Microsoft Word, the
preferred format.
Short Fiction, Creative Non-Fiction, and Social Commentary
Limit of one entry per category, no more than 4,000 words per
entry. Submit in either html or Microsoft Word, the preferred format.
Visual Art & Photography
Limit of three submissions per artist in .JPG or .GIF format.
Submissions are accepted by e-mail only. We are an on-line publication
and do not accept hardcopy entries. Your e-mail should contain the following
information:
• In the
message subject line include your last name followed by the category
of your submission (i.e., Name – Short Fiction)
• In the body of your e-mail include your full name, e-mail
address, mailing address, title of your submission(s), word count
(for prose submissions), and short biography (3-4 lines).
• Attach your submission as a Word or html document to your
e-mail.
• If you are making multiple poetry or art submissions attach
each submission to your e-mail as a separate document.
Your submission
should be formatted as follows:
• Use a
12-point serif font (Times New Roman preferred).
• For prose entries, double space the text, with a five space
indentation or tab to delineate paragraph breaks.
• Remove any formatting that includes headers and footers, page
breaks, etc.
• Your name should not appear anywhere in the attached document.
Please note:
• Submissions
in multiple categories should be done in separate e-mails.
• With the exception of the contest winners, published authors
will not be paid.
• We do not accept previously published works.
• Your submission(s) may not be accepted if the guidelines are
not followed.
• After publication, authors and artists retain all rights to
their works.
• Neither the staff of M Review nor Marylhurst University is
responsible for lost, damaged, or unreadable submissions.
• You will receive notification whether or not your work is
accepted. Please do not send inquiries before June 1. If your work
is published elsewhere before you are notified by M Review, please
let us know via e-mail.
• We reserve the right to consider your submission for a category
other than originally submitted for consideration. Authors will be
notified if this occurs.
• Submissions e-mailed outside of the acceptance period will
not be read.
Submissions
