Compositionally, Phillips works with combining multiple highly differentiated sound worlds, having them interact through juxtaposition, inter-penetration and convolution. The resulting synthesis of sounds is sometimes humorous and often mysterious or spiritual. His musical projects often involve collaborations with performers, dancers and computer artists and involve the use of computer technology. AwardsHe has won numerous awards, grants and residencies. TeachersAt UC-SC, Phillips studied with Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Roger Reynolds.
