Writing Contest, Marylhurst UniversityLocal community college students enter the Marylhurst Writing Contest each year. Here are the winners for 2016.

We received excellent submissions for the 2016 Marylhurst Writing Contest, especially in the categories of Creative Nonfiction and Poetry.

And the winners are:

Creative Nonfiction
First Place: Sunnyside by Lisa McMaster
Second Place: The Art of Leaving by Shilo Niziolek
Third Place: Jeremy by Kristen Wohlers

Poetry
First Place: Pantoum for Umpqua by Joseph Ballard
Second Place: Orpheus by Jack Eikrem
Third Place: Twenty-One Gun Salute by Suzette Meier

Note: We did not select a short fiction prize winner this year.

First place winners receive a full tuition waiver for one four-credit course in the English Literature & Writing program at Marylhurst University (to be used winter or spring terms 2017) as well as a $75 gift card for Powell’s Books. Second- and third-place winners receive a $25 Powell’s gift card.
