Laura BeerDr. Laura Beer, music therapy program director, was named associate editor of the national journal Music Therapy Perspectives in May 2016.

Laura Beer also published an article in the most recent issue of Music Therapy Perspectives (vol. 34, no. 1). Dr. Beer’s article is titled From Embedded to Embodied: Including Music in Arts-Based Music Therapy Research. She provides several strategies for conducting qualitative research that integrates “the primary form of our clinical practice: that of music.” Dr. Beer introduces examples of including music in research design and implementation. She also provides suggestions for integrating music into all phases of research methodology.

Music Therapy Perspectives is a journal for readers inside and outside the profession of music therapy. Focusing on clinical benefits of music therapy, the journal strives to serve as a resource and forum for music therapists, music therapy students and educators, and those in related professions. Music Therapy Perspectives is an official publication of the American Music Therapy Association.
