Rich Rubsamen, Marylhurst UniversityMarylhurst University is pleased to announce the hire of F. Richard (Rich) Rubsamen as its new Vice President of Finance and Administration effective July 21, 2016. In this role, Rubsamen will oversee all aspects of Marylhurst’s financial administration including: financial and related planning; operating and capital budgeting; revenue and expenditure analysis; financial and management reporting; procurement; investments and risk management; accounting, tax, audit and compliance obligations, facilities (including grounds), legal, environmental health and safety, campus store, distribution center and contracted food services. The Vice President of Finance is a key member of the university’s Executive Leadership Team.

Rich Rubsamen replaces Debi Meyers, who retired in June. The university conducted a national search over several months. Larry Large, former president of the Oregon Alliance of Independent Colleges and Universities, led the search committee.

Rubsamen brings vast experience in budget process, capital development and organizational expansion through a career that spans both higher education and corporate entities. Most notably, Rubsamen served at Sierra Nevada College, first as the Chief Financial Officer (2004-2007) and later as President and CEO (2010-2011). At SNC, Rubsamen contributed to a significant improvement in the college’s enrollment and an exciting expansion of the institution’s capital infrastructure. “Sierra Nevada College continues to grow and thrive, thanks in no small measure to his skill,” said Melody Rose, president of Marylhurst University.

Rubsamen’s achievements at Sierra Nevada College include:

  • delivering a measurable improvement in fiscal 2012 operating margin versus fiscal 2011, approaching an operating “break even” for the first time in the institution’s history;
  • spearheading the college’s most successful operating fundraising efforts in unrestricted gifts;
  • and identifying/establishing auxiliary revenue sources, resulting in a 15% increase in revenue for the college.

In the corporate world, Rubsamen served as Chief Financial Officer/Vice President of Finance for several organizations, including Harrah’s Entertainment, Inc. in Lake Tahoe, Nevada (a division of Caesars Entertainment Corporation), Zoho Corporation and, most recently, Mike Menath Insurance in Incline Village, Nevada.
