Kim Zea
Religious Studies
Kim Zea had worked in ministry for 20 years. She knew this was her calling and that "God gives you the tools you need in order to do his work" yet, she said, she felt limited in some areas.
When the youngest of her four children began school, so did Kim, starting with community college courses. She researched schools that offered four-year degrees in Religious Studies, which led her to Marylhurst University.
Tolerance and Respect
Kim believed that Marylhurst, with its Catholic heritage, was an ideal choice. "A Catholic university would create a strong box for me, and I would have all the answers I needed," she thought.
"Instead, my world began to open up," she said. "I learned about different traditions and ways in which we encountered God. Being in small classes allowed all of us to really hear and learn from each other. Tolerance and respect of others' passions and beliefs became a way of learning."
Kim now serves as Youth Minister at Holy Family Church in Portland. She also teaches religion daily to fifth graders.
