Interlibrary Loan Policy

Please review the library's policy before placing an interlibrary loan request.

Who Can Borrow

  • Current students, staff and faculty
  • Faculty preparing for a future class at Marylhurst
  • Students finishing a thesis or an incomplete

Students who have three or more overdue library materials or more than $5.00 in library fines must return these items or get their fines under $5.00 to be eligible to borrow books, videos and other returnable items.

Loan Periods

Books, Recordings and Videos

Loan periods for materials are set by the lending library, and the loan periods can vary from four hours to the more common 28 days for books and one week for CDs or videos. Interlibrary loan items cannot be renewed and are subject to recall by the lender at any time.

Articles

Requested articles are yours to keep unless otherwise noted.

Picking Up Your Materials

Books, Recordings and Videos

Books and other returnable items can be picked up at the circulation desk. You will receive an email when your material arrives which will be held for one week before it is returned to the lending library.

Articles

When an article you have requested is ready, it will be sent to you via the email address that you have provided.

Returning Materials

Materials borrowed through interlibrary loan must be returned to the circulation desk inside Shoen Library or, if the library is closed, the book drop next to the front door. These items cannot be returned to the roadside book drop.

Processing Fees

Except under very rare circumstances, there is no charge for items borrowed through interlibrary loan. You will be contacted if there is a fee for borrowed materials.

Fines

There is a late fee of $.50 a day for books and other returnable materials borrowed through interlibrary loan. Journal articles do not need to be returned. The borrower is responsible for any damaged or lost items checked out to him/her. Replacement costs are set by the lending library.

Distance Students

Books, Recording and Videos

Due to lending libraries' concerns about prompt return of library materials, books and other returnable interlibrary loan items cannot be mailed to students or faculty. Distance students are encouraged to use their local public libraries to fill interlibrary loan requests for books and other returnable materials.

Articles

Articles will be emailed to distance students and instructors.
