Reserves Policy
Shoen Library offers both In-House Reserves and Electronic Reserves for qualifying courses.
In-House Reserves at Shoen Library
Instructors who are teaching courses on campus may request that materials be kept behind the Circulation Desk on reserve. Reserves can consist of almost any material belonging to the library with the exceptions of materials located in the Reference Collection or Periodicals Collection. Library staff will also place instructor and departmental copies on reserve, but identifying stickers will be affixed to materials. Instructors who teach the same course every term are eligible to place materials on reserve on an annual basis.

Electronic Reserves (e-Reserves)
Only instructors who are teaching fully online courses may use the e-Reserve option. Library staff will post articles and single book chapters that are otherwise unavailable through the library's existing electronic resources.
Processing
Please allow at least five days for the processing of reserves requests. Library staff will obtain permission to place copyrighted materials such as articles and copies of single book chapters on reserve, but in some instances the request may not be processed due to high cost or copyright permission not being granted.
E-Reserves are added to content folders in an instructor's course shell. Library staff are available to suggest additional library resources and to help prepare the readings for access within a particular online course.
Limitations
Due to copyright permission and costs, each course is limited to two requests. Please note that instructors who wish to place many articles on reserve are encouraged to contact a department assistant or the bookstore to create course packs.
