Course evaluations at Marylhurst are done online via a program called EvaluationKit for all courses with more than 1 student enrolled (because we cannot assure anonymity we do not run course evaluations for courses with only 1 student, such as independent study).
In response to student feedback, we began using a shorter form and this new system in Winter of 2011. You'll receive email notifications when one of your course evaluations become available, and email reminders if the deadline is approaching and you haven't yet completed one or more of your course evaluations. Each email will contain a personal link to your course evaluations.
Just as you depend on feedback from your instructor to help you improve your learning, your instructors and their departments depend on feedback from you to help them improve. Your fellow students also benefit from your feedback; those who take the course after you will have an improved experience as a result of information gathered from course evaluations. It is also the case that some of our programs' accrediting bodies require a certain response rate on course evaluations.
Yes, Marylhurst course evaluations are completely anonymous. When you submit your evaluation for a course, the system disassociates your answers from your account, so there's no way to link them back to you. Your instructor and the department chair see reports with no information about who submitted evaluations, let alone who submitted particular evaluations.
Evaluation Kit works with Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari. If you do not currently have one of these browsers, you can download Firefox for free.
Your instructor uses the feedback from the class to improve his/her teaching and the students' experience of the course. The Department Chair and Deans use the feedback to help the instructor improve his/her teaching and to make changes to the course and/or program that benefit students.

What are some examples of the types of changes that have actually been made at Marylhurst
as a result of course evaluations?
Changes have been made to courses and teaching strategies, including but not limited to:
- Decreasing the number of online discussions
- Changing the textbook
- Clarifying the purpose of in-class activities
- Devoting more in-class time to experiential learning and decreasing lecture time
- Adding readings from multi-cultural perspectives
- Increasing field experiences
- Changing the type of software students are required to use in order to facilitate learning
Chairs have determined what support and mentoring opportunities instructors need to further their professional development and used course evaluation results to help them in making decisions about course offerings and scheduling.
Can I see course evaluation results for courses or instructors I'm considering?
Though we understand that students might find such information helpful, we do not have the capacity to provide results specific to every course and/or instructor at this time. We do aggregate course evaluation results each year and present them in a institutional report available on our website. Department chairs do have the ability to look at results over time for individual instructors or courses and can utilize those results, in conjunction with other assessment information, to help improve course and instruction quality.
There are three ways to access your course evaluations:
1) by clicking on a link in an email
2) by clicking on Course Evaluations from any of your Moodle courses
3) by clicking on the "course evaluation login" link in MyMarylhurst.
Email: You will receive an email from Marylhurst Course Evaluation
Administrator when one of your course evaluations becomes available to you. All you have to do is click on the link in that email, which will open up a new window or tab in your browser, and then click on the course title to get to the evaluation form for that course. When you are finished completing the form, click the Submit button. If you need to, you can also click on the Save & Return Later button, which saves your answers up to that point so that you can come back later and finish the form.
Important: do not forward the email you receive from Evaluation Kit to anyone else. The link in the email is specific to you.
Moodle: Click on the Course Evaluations link from any of yourMoodle
course sites. This link can be found on the left-hand side of the page,
under Marylhurst Resources. Clicking on the link will take you directly
MyMarylhurst: click on the Course Evaluations link in the lower left hand corner of your screen after logging into MyMarylhurst. You'll find a link, labeled "course evaluation login" that will take you directly into EvaluationKit.
Course evaluations for most Marylhurst courses open 8 days before the last published class date and close on the day before the grades due date. For a weekend course, the evaluation becomes available the day after the last published class date and ends the day before the grades due date. For more specific information about the current term's evaluation periods, please see the Help Desk website:www.marylhurst.edu/helpdesk
Unfortunately, no. Once you have submitted an evaluation, there is no way for you to change it or take it back because the system automatically disassociates submitted forms from student accounts in order to keep the responses anonymous.
Yes, just click on the Save and Return Later button and close the window. You can access the form later from any computer with Internet access and finish filling it out.
No, unfortunately. As mentioned above, the evaluation form for a particular course is only available to students until the day before the grades due date each term. However, if you have missed the course evaluation period but would still like to provide feedback, please write a letter to the chair of the department in which the class was offered.
No. All course evaluations are completely anonymous, and your instructor can only view the course evaluation results after the grades due date.
No. Just as you don't want your course evaluation answers to affect your grade, your instructor doesn't want your grade to affect your course evaluation answers.
