Technology ResourcesIncreasingly, technology provides an unparalleled set of tools for learning. The Marylhurst mission has always been to bring learning to anyone with the vision to pursue it, by whatever means necessary. In the 21st century, there are few means more effective than computer and Internet technology. Marylhurst is dedicated to offering students the most sophisticated resources available for research, experimentation and production. E.L. Wiegand Teaching and Learning CenterThe E.L. Wiegand Teaching and Learning Center is a digital multimedia theater-style classroom located in the BP John Administration Building. Named to honor the generosity of the E.L. Wiegand Foundation, this facility is heralded as a blend of historic preservation and a touch-screen audio-visual system with wireless Internet access. Wireless Access PointsWireless access to the Internet is rapidly expanding across the Marylhurst University campus. Access points now include areas within BP John Administration Building such as the E.L. Wiegand Teaching & Learning Center and the Center for Learning & Technologys drop-in lab. Shoen Library, the Willow Room and Hawthorne Room in Clark Commons and the Bookstore also are equipped with wireless access. Harry A. Merlo Science CenterThe Harry A. Merlo Science Center encompasses two science labs located in Flavia Hall. The labs are fully equipped with standard and specialized scientific equipment, complete multimedia systems and network access. Computer Labs and SitesShoen Library Computer LabThe Shoen Library Computer Lab is used as a classroom as well as for drop-in student use. The teaching lab contains 16 fully networked Intel Pentium processor-based PCs with Internet access. Students can also take advantage of:
Drop-In Computing SitesShoen Library's computer lab and the student lounge offer students areas where they can log onto a computer to check email or surf the Web. Five PC workstations are available in the library's drop-in lab. Specialty Computing SitesThe Shoen Library Computer Lab has two multimedia computers with 21-inch screens, Adobe Photoshop software, scanning capabilities and other sophisticated tools. The Mayer Art Building, home of the Art Department, also has a multimedia unit with a high-end scanner for scanning slides, graphics and photographs. This system, loaded with AutoCAD, includes a large-size color printer. Additional color printing and other services are available through the Instructional Technology Program in Flavia Hall by special arrangement. Whipple Music RoomThe Whipple Room, located in Shoen Library, is a dedicated music room with special audio and video systems for music listening and viewing as well as computer software and keyboards for composing. Music DepartmentThe Music Departments technology studio and computer lab are equipped with keyboards, sound sources, mixers and computers for recording, sequencing, composing and ear training. Classroom TechnologyAll Marylhurst teaching spaces are fully networked. Marylhurst periodically upgrades and replaces standard classroom equipment, such as video players and projectors, as well as computers and other teaching equipment. | |||||||
