Welcome, and we’re happy you are interested in joining our diverse network of Interior Design students and faculty. The pursuit of Marylhurst’s BFA in Interior Design degree requires a high level of commitment (but don’t worry, we offer supporting services). Therefore, admission into the program is selective.
You may enter the program at any point during the year. Most students begin the studio sequence in the fall.
To start, applicants should have a 3.0 minimum GPA and at least 30 transferable college credits.
The interior design program at Marylhurst has a partnership with the PCC interior design program and other area community colleges. Students are encouraged to co-enroll and begin the Marylhurst interior design studio sequence while taking courses at community college.

Official transcripts must be received by Marylhurst University in the original unopened envelope or through approved electronic means from the originating institution. Sounds very legal, but it’s pretty straightforward: contact your previous institutions and request an official transcript to be sent directly to Marylhurst: 17600 Pacific HWY, PO Box 261, Marylhurst, OR 97036-0261. Official transcripts can also be sent via a secure delivery service such as National Student Clearinghouse, eSCRIP-SAFE, or Parchment. Directions on how to do this will also be available within the online admissions application.
Statement of Intent
This is a brief essay in which you introduce yourself and share information about your academic goals and experiences. This is not a formal academic or research paper, but it should be proofread for errors and grammar to ensure readability. This essay may be used as part of the scholarship consideration process at Marylhurst University. Please write a one-to-two page paper in 12pt. font. Make sure to include your name in the top, right-hand corner of each page. Please address the following questions:
- Why have you chosen your course of study? If undecided, please comment on your area(s) of interest.
- Why have you chosen Marylhurst University?
- How does this degree fit into your past/current life experiences and future goals?
To submit the statement, you can upload it inside the online application portal, or email it to email@example.com or FAX it to 503.699.6320.

Written and visual personal reflection
This can be anything, really. We just want to know a little more about you and your artistic viewpoint. We ask that you express yourself in writing and with imagery so both written and visual elements are present. The supplemental application for Interior Design has further detail about this admissions requirement.
