Music Programs Admissions Requirements
Welcome! Whether you’re applying to the B.A. in Music or the Bachelor’s in Music Therapy, here are your basic admissions requirements to formally apply to either of these programs. Bachelor’s Degree: Admissions Requirements
To start, applicants should have a 2.25 minimum GPA on college work or a 2.5 minimum GPA on high school work.
- Complete an online application
Don’t worry about finishing the online application in one session. You can save your work, log out and return to the application at any time. Your information will be saved.
- Pay the $50 application fee
- Submit your official transcripts from all previous schools
- Write a short, one-to-two page personal statement of intent

Official transcripts must arrive at Marylhurst University in the original unopened envelope as issued by the originating institution with an institutional stamp or signature on the closed envelope flap. Sounds very legal, but it’s pretty straightforward: contact your previous institutions and request an official transcript to be sent directly to Marylhurst: 17600 Pacific HWY, PO Box 261, Marylhurst, OR 97036-0261. Official transcripts can also be sent via official electronic methods like eScript or Parchment. Directions on how to do this will also be available within the online admissions application.
Statement of Intent
This is a brief essay in which you introduce yourself and share information about your academic goals and experiences. This is not a formal academic or research paper, but it should be proofread for errors and grammar to ensure readability. This essay may be used as part of the scholarship consideration process at Marylhurst University. Please write a one-to-two page paper in 12pt. font. Make sure to include your name in the top, right-hand corner of each page. Please address the following questions:
- Why have you chosen your course of study? If undecided, please comment on your area(s) of interest.
- Why have you chosen Marylhurst University?
- How does this degree fit into your past/current life experiences and future goals?

Music Programs: Admissions Requirements
The Marylhurst’s music programs are rigorous, so we seek students who already demonstrate a high level of musicianship. In addition to fulfilling general university admission requirements (see above), you should also:
- Submit a music-specific application
- Complete an audition
- Complete additional assessments after acceptance to determine proper placement within the program

Marylhurst schedules auditions several times a year for qualified candidates after receiving and reviewing application materials. Please make sure your application materials are submitted at least two weeks prior to the audition period to ensure ample time for review. View our auditions guidelines.
