IT and Tech Help at Marylhurst

The Marylhurst ITS Help Desk provides a centralized point of contact for many technology needs or questions. We support students, staff, and faculty on and off campus. Every email or call creates a support ticket in our system, prioritized by issue. The best way to reach the help desk is by email or phone. Your calls and emails are routed to our mobile devices during office hours when we are out.

We also have a physical location in Shoen Library, staffed later in the day, though we are often out of the office assisting one of you!

General teaching and design labs can be found at Shoen Library for students, staff, or faculty to work on should they not have access to a personal computer for a time. Most labs have access to a printer, though some costs are associated with this. While these labs are available to all students, at times classes are held in these rooms, so please check the schedule if you need to use these computers!

Google Apps for Education
Google Apps is a suite of applications in three sets:

Core Apps
Gmail, Calendars, Drive (Google Docs), Sites, and Groups. Marylhurst has a special agreement with Google: all data within these apps is owned by Marylhurst University and not indexed by Google. They are even ad-free!

Non-Core Apps
YouTube, Google Hangouts, and Google Maps have separate Terms and Conditions, the same as a personal Google account. These are NOT managed by Marylhurst. These apps often connect to social networking and may not have the same privacy protection as the Core Apps above. We believe these apps are generally safe and want you to use them appropriately in your educational pursuits. However, you are responsible for monitoring privacy in Non-Core Apps and we do not provide technical support for them.

Third-Party Apps
Not created or operated by Google. When using a third-party app, you are making an agreement directly with the creator of the app. You are responsible for privacy and support for third-party apps.

Connecting other sites to your Marylhurst Google account
Often other apps and services request connection to your Google account, usually as a method for logging in and account creation. There is a risk here — if that app goes haywire and corrupts your account, the only option might be to delete your account (and all your email with it). It is up to you to manage your risk and privacy.

computer with globe - marylhurstZoom is a web-conferencing tool used at Marylhurst University. Students, staff, and faculty have free access to a basic version of Zoom that has all the features as the pro version, but with a time limit of 40 minutes for groups (unlimited time for one-to-one meetings).
