Art Careers – B.A. and B.F.A. Programs

B.F.A. in Art Program at Marylhurst University in Portland, Oregon

Careers: Art Programs at Marylhurst

Today’s artists primarily work collaboratively. Fine arts careers include regular exhibitions in commercial galleries, public or private commissions, and consultation on design teams. The B.F.A. in Art program will also prepare you for graduate level studies, within and outside traditionally art related fields. In fact, many of Marylhurst’s graduates choose to pursue the university’s nationally-top-ranked Master’s in Art Therapy Counseling program or advance to law school or other area of study.

Industries Seek Influence from the Arts

Your professional opportunities however do not end there – many industries are partnering with artists to influence their work, culture and perspective. Today, art program graduates are contributing their art background and social awareness in law school, participating in think-tanks, and launching regionally and nationally relevant businesses. Marylhurst art graduates in particular are recognized for their vast knowledge of social, theory and contemporary economics, and the university’s art programs continue to benefit from an alumni network of successful entrepreneurs, art critics and museum curators.

Whether you seek a traditional art management career, desire to own and operate your own business, or you have plans to continue on to graduate school, an art degree from Marylhurst will arm you with the art skills, social awareness and confidence needed to conquer your professional goals.

Fine Arts Careers – Featured Student – Laura Hogan

Laura Hogan - B.F.A. in Art - Featured Student - Marylhurst UniversityThere are many words that describe Bachelor of Fine Arts student Laura Hogan, but not one of them is “ordinary.” Born in Boise, Idaho, Laura moved with her mom to Saipan, part of the Northern Mariana Islands in the South Pacific, when she was 14 years old. She attended high school there, and Saipan was the place where she first started painting. After high school, she returned to the Northwest and attended Portland Community College off and on for five years. She wanted to get her general courses completed, but she still did not know what direction she wanted to take her art.  Find out what brought Laura to Marylhurst and how the B.F.A. in Art fit with her overall career path.
