Whether your professional goals include a career as a choir director, composer or conductor, Marylhurst’s B.A. in Music program provides the fundamental and comprehensive music education you’ll need to be successful.
Within the B.A. in Music program, studies provide introductions in performance, teaching, composition, music technology and other music-related fields. The liberal arts foundation of the program offers a strong multidisciplinary background for many career paths and is often pursued as a pathway to a fifth-year teaching certificate or a graduate degree.
“Most music programs exist within a very traditional conservatory structure. This can be very limiting. At Marylhurst, students are exposed to alternative career pathways, and I think this increases the likelihood of graduates being able to pursue a dream job that will also support them. One of my favorite things about being a teacher is seeing students create new possibilities for themselves and discovering the unknown. I picked the field of computer music because it transcends typical borders, like culture, gender and genre. The exciting thing is to see such great diversity in the field and a rich array of ideas and topics including psychology, philosophy, acoustics and computer science.”
~ Dr. Nathan Phillips, Faculty
