100% Online Hospitality Management Program

The Hospitality Management program is geared toward working adults. Our five-week classes are held online. Our general education (Marylhurst Core) classes are also available online. Classes are small (average class size is 11) offering a discussion-style, inclusive learning environment so you form connections with your classmates and the faculty.

B.A.S. in Hospitality Management Option

If you hold an associate’s in applied science (A.A.S.), the Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.) allows you to transfer in additional vocational credits toward this degree. And it goes beyond an A.A.S., if you have another technical degree or have completed a body of at least 45 credits in a single professional/technical discipline, you can apply up to 90 of those credits to the B.A.S. in Hospitality Management at Marylhurst.

Hospitality Management Online Curriculum and Degree Requirements

To complete the Hospitality Management online program, you will take 60 quarter credits in the major made up of the business core, hospitality management requirements and a concentration area. In addition, you will take classes in the Marylhurst Core as well as general electives for a total of 180 quarter credits to earn a bachelor’s degree. The number of credits you transfer to the program will determine how many of the Marylhurst Core and general electives you will need to take.

Business Core

20 Credits

Within the business core, you’ll take courses focused on business fundamentals. Courses include:

Hospitality Management

32 Credits

Key courses offer in-depth knowledge in specific hospitality management subjects. Courses include:

  • Introduction to the Hospitality Industry
  • Human Resources for Hospitality
  • Service Operations Management
  • Fundamentals of Culinary Operations
  • Hospitality Law
  • Managerial Accounting for the Hospitality Industry
  • Hospitality Facilities Management
  • Hospitality Capstone

Marylhurst Core: Gain applied liberal art skills in inquiry, critical thinking, writing, problem-solving and leadership through Marylhurst Core coursework. The Marylhurst Core is a series of classes focused on helping you become an informed citizen capable of understanding our complex world.

General Electives: Select courses outside of Hospitality Management from Marylhurst’s diverse undergraduate programs to broaden and further customize your education to your career goals.

Transfer in Your Previous College Credit

More than 90% of Students Transfer in Credits to Marylhurst UniversityMost of Marylhurst’s incoming students transfer in college credit from either community colleges or other four-year institutions. On average, students transfer in 45 to 50 quarter credits, and many students enter the university with the majority of their Marylhurst Core or general education requirements completed.

Practitioner Faculty

Program faculty members are disciplinary experts from the School of Business, as well as industry professionals with expertise in hotel and restaurant management, food and beverage service and hospitality operations. Our hospitality management faculty possess extensive applied knowledge gained from actual management responsibilities and academic credentials pertaining to business or hospitality management.

Credit for Prior Learning

Marylhurst is a nationally recognized leader for its credit for prior learning program, allowing students to earn college credit for work and military experience, on-the-job training, volunteer work and more. Through this program, students can earn as much as 45 credits toward their degree and save up to $17,000 in tuition.

Degree Completion

Student at Marylhurst UniversityThe average time to complete the B.S. or B.A.S. in Hospitality Management program is two to three years. Marylhurst is a degree completion institution, meaning most of our students enter our university with some previous college credit, reducing the investment of time and financial resources necessary to earn their degree.
