Music faculty Justin Smith and Emily Ross presented at the Oregon Music Educators Conference in January 2016.
Their presentation, Help Is On The Way! Music Therapy for the Oregon Music Educator, was well-received by attendees at the OMEA All-State conference in Eugene, Ore.
“This was a wonderful opportunity to talk to music teachers about what music therapy could look like in their schools,” Ross said. “Our talk was timely, with the new licensure of music therapy in the State of Oregon going into effect this January, making music therapy much more accessible through the school systems,” she added. Ross and Smith also shared details about the music therapy program at Marylhurst.
The Oregon Music Education Association promotes excellence in music education, serving approximately 900 members who are dedicated to the music education of Oregonians of all ages. The majority of OMEA members teach in K-12 schools, colleges and universities.
